Batman Incorporated #13 Review

Right, here is my first post

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR BATMAN INCORPORATED #13

It is hard to believe that Grant Morrison’s historic run on Batman is now over. Batman Inc #13 has finally come out and the good man didn't fail to surprise the fans either. As a fan of Morrison’s work on Batman dating back to getting into reading Batman comics in 2009, I was highly anticipating the finale to his saga.

With Damian Wayne’s saddening and brutal death in issue #8 in February, fans have been anxiously awaiting the final face-off between Batman and his former lover and Damian’s mother Talia Al Ghul.  The result was great. The scene played as expected, with Batman managing to avenge his son’s death, albeit in a non-violent manor and once and for all destroying the Terrorist Leviathan organisation that was plagued his city for months. The finale was what a long-time fan of Morrison’s work was to expect. An ending but not full resolution, as although Lady Talia is defeated, and subsequently killed by Kate Kane, Gotham saved, Bruce Wayne Vindicated and of course, Batman triumphant!

This review would not be fair without praising the AMAZING artwork of Chris Burnham! The guy has been stellar on all issues that have been produced in this title. Really cool and highly vibrant retro style that he has displayed continuously throughout this second volume, and this final issue is no different. I would often find myself staring at the gorgeous images for a full minute or so before continuing on with the story. Hell of a talent, and although Batman Inc is now over with Morrison. Mr Burnham will be co-writing and drawing the artwork for Batman Incorporated Special #1 along a few more of the industry's finest, available at the end of this month- August 2013.

Alas, this is the end of a fine 7 year run, which leaves fans with more than a few questions still lingering in the air. The final scene shows Ra’s Al Ghul free from imprisonment by his own daughter, in a lab of Damian clones ready to hatch to take on the Detective! Will this be it then for Morrison related Batman stories? Who can tell, but this fan wouldn't bet money against it happening; never say never after all. I think eventually a follow-up story to this gem of a series will be printed, however don’t hold your breath. Grant has earned a deserved break from writing about the Dark Knight.  For now let’s just smile with the great work that this man has done for one of the most iconic superhero characters of all time.

THANK YOU GRANT! :D

RATING= 4/5 EXCELLENT
