Deep Apologies

Deep deep apologies everyone.

I know 2 weeks ago I promised several reviews. But sadly my University work has had to take priority now along with family issues. I don't know when I can upload another full entry next, but I will promise to try and get one up before I leave for University again next Saturday.

Reading UPDATE

Hello Brave Travellers

As this blog has now started to get off the ground, and because I did mention I will cover what books I am reading, I thought I would just post a brief update of what literary goodness I'm filling my head with!

I have literally just finished reading Jim Thompson's 1952 Pulp-Noir crime novel, "The Killer Inside Me".

Expect a full review in the next 3-4 coming days! :D

I also intend to watch the 2010 film adaptation of the book and review that also.

Thanks again guys

Batman Incorporated #13 Review

Right, here is my first post

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR BATMAN INCORPORATED #13

It is hard to believe that Grant Morrison’s historic run on Batman is now over. Batman Inc #13 has finally come out and the good man didn't fail to surprise the fans either. As a fan of Morrison’s work on Batman dating back to getting into reading Batman comics in 2009, I was highly anticipating the finale to his saga.

With Damian Wayne’s saddening and brutal death in issue #8 in February, fans have been anxiously awaiting the final face-off between Batman and his former lover and Damian’s mother Talia Al Ghul.  The result was great. The scene played as expected, with Batman managing to avenge his son’s death, albeit in a non-violent manor and once and for all destroying the Terrorist Leviathan organisation that was plagued his city for months. The finale was what a long-time fan of Morrison’s work was to expect. An ending but not full resolution, as although Lady Talia is defeated, and subsequently killed by Kate Kane, Gotham saved, Bruce Wayne Vindicated and of course, Batman triumphant!

This review would not be fair without praising the AMAZING artwork of Chris Burnham! The guy has been stellar on all issues that have been produced in this title. Really cool and highly vibrant retro style that he has displayed continuously throughout this second volume, and this final issue is no different. I would often find myself staring at the gorgeous images for a full minute or so before continuing on with the story. Hell of a talent, and although Batman Inc is now over with Morrison. Mr Burnham will be co-writing and drawing the artwork for Batman Incorporated Special #1 along a few more of the industry's finest, available at the end of this month- August 2013.

Alas, this is the end of a fine 7 year run, which leaves fans with more than a few questions still lingering in the air. The final scene shows Ra’s Al Ghul free from imprisonment by his own daughter, in a lab of Damian clones ready to hatch to take on the Detective! Will this be it then for Morrison related Batman stories? Who can tell, but this fan wouldn't bet money against it happening; never say never after all. I think eventually a follow-up story to this gem of a series will be printed, however don’t hold your breath. Grant has earned a deserved break from writing about the Dark Knight.  For now let’s just smile with the great work that this man has done for one of the most iconic superhero characters of all time.

THANK YOU GRANT! :D

RATING= 4/5 EXCELLENT

Welcome

Good Morning/ Afternoon/ Evening

Welcome to The Ocean of Violence, my first blog

My name is Chris Kinloch III, a 20 year-old Student currently studying History at The University of Derby, and here is my first shot at blogging. Be kind.

The reasons for deciding to blog is purely down to lack of a better explanation; why not? Life is about experiencing as much as one possibly can, and recently I’ve fallen love with the idea of blogging, in the typical middle-class hipsterish way in which I half-assume people would like to take interest in my posts. Idealistic I know.

I have no prior resume or precedent for blogging, so this is entirely new to me. An advantage of blogging is I can take my time, ease stress and best of all I can type my ideas and thoughts on subjects, free of word limits, referencing or the paranoia associated with these.

As for what I intend to cover in this blog……

Expect to see posts on the following topics and hobbies that I have passion invested in:

MUSIC

Not into music as much as I was in my glory days of youth, however I always keep up with what is going on in the cut-throat world of music. Tour news, album news etc I will likely blog about.

BOOKS

I enjoy reading books when i can. Well books not relating to my course! Novels and the like. I intend to start reviewing the books I am reading in my spare time and giving the odd update of how I'm getting on with them.

GAMES

I play the odd PS3 game here and there, not much of a "gamer" but I do enjoy GTA and the Batman Arkham series. Both of which have new titles out next month and the following, so expect a review of them in the future!

TELEVISION

Again not something I watch an awful lot of, however I do enjoy AMC's Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Hell on Wheels. I also enjoy Comic related TV shows like Beware The Batman and Animated Comedy such as South Park.

COMICS

My main hobby and where a lot of spare money goes into. My love of comics mainly revolves around Batman related comics titles such as DC Comics’ “Batman” and “Batman Incorporated” and Image Comics’ “The Walking Dead”, of which I am also a huge fan of the AMC produced Television series.

FILMS

I enjoy attending the cinema when I can as well as watching films, I may end up blogging on a few films I have recently viewed.

ORIGINALITY OF THE CONTENT

All of the following posts are original pieces, written, edited and uploaded by myself- Chris Kinloch III, unless stated otherwise. I ask you not to reproduce the content of this blog without first seeking and being granted permission from myself…….otherwise I will back-trace it and report you to the Cyber Police!

WHAT NOT TO EXPECT

The following is what not to expect to be covered in this blog of mine:

ACADEMIA

I won’t be blogging any updates on current on-going essays or pieces of coursework I am currently undertaking during my University study in accordance to self-plagiarism policies strictly enforced, so please don’t expect any.

REGULAR UPDATES

Unfortunately due to my schedule of University study and other commitments I will not be able to blog and update every 24 hours etc. I will try my very best to update at least once every week, even if it is just a quick short paragraph review of a comic I bought and read that week. At least it will be something. Should there be a serious on-going matter for me to attend to, then I will make a post explaining why I am currently busy and not able to blog.

That Ladies and Gentleman is the very basic sets of information out of the way.

The first few posts will be made and then we will take it from there.

Also by all means feel free to read, comment and give feedback on this blog. Again I’m new to this, so be fair. Leave whatever comments, constructive or positive.  If you want any questions about my posts answered, hit me up on my Twitter account- @chrisjkinloch93. Thank you.
